Often you associate hotel weddings with large guests lists. For the most part this is true. In Ottawa, when a couple is looking to book a reception for more than about 150 guests, most consider hotels as their venue. However, hotels can do an equally great job with a small wedding too.

A winter outdoor wedding can be very romantic. You can image being in a wooded area with fluffy snow on the trees painting a picturesque scene. The warmth of the couple exchanging their wedding vows would hearten the guests in attendance. Yes all this is true including the -20C bitter cold temperature that can accompany the day.

Brides and grooms seek out a wedding venue of their dreams. One dream is to have their wedding at a rustic lodge. Lodges are part of our romantic images of Canada like canoes and roaring fireplaces. They form the fabric of our heritage, just like weddings.

There is always a small moment of butterflies just as I am about to begin a wedding ceremony. Despite having completed six hundred weddings, I still pause to mentally check in and remind myself that this wedding ceremony – like every other – deserves my best – rain or shine.
